Chapter 140, Sections 129B(11) and 131(I) of Massachusetts state
law requires the holder of a Firearms Identification Card (FID)
and/or a License to Carry Firearms (LTC) to notify 3 specific authorities
of ANY change of address.
You must notify by CERTIFIED MAIL, IN WRITING and within 30 DAYS
the following 3 individuals:
1) The authority who issued the FID and/or LTC,
2) The Chief of Police of the city/town to which you are moving,
3) The Executive Director of the Criminal History Systems Board.
Failure to notify of any change of address is cause for revocation
of a LTC or FID card. Even if you change your address within the
same city/town that issued the LTC or FID, you are still required
to notify the Executive Director of the Criminal History Systems
Board and the local authority who issued you the LTC or FID. Always
keep a copy of each letter and attach your copy of the Certified
Mail receipt. In addition, I suggest sending the material "Return
Receipt Requested" so that you will have an actual physical
signature of the individual who received and signed for your change
of address letter should a problem arise.
Chapter 140, Section 129B (11) A cardholder shall notify, in writing,
the licensing authority that issued such card, the chief of police
into whose jurisdiction such cardholder moves and the executive
director of the criminal history systems board of any change of
address. Such notification shall be made by certified mail within
30 days of its occurrence. Failure to so notify shall be cause for
revocation or suspension of such card.
Chapter 140, Section 129 (L) ... Any licensee shall notify, in
writing, the licensing authority who issued said license, the chief
of police into whose jurisdiction the licensee moves and the executive
director of the criminal history systems board of any change of
address. Such notification shall be made by certified mail within
30 days of its occurrence. Failure to so notify shall be cause for
revocation or suspension of said license.
