Private, personalized instruction and training for the NRA Basic Pistol Course(LTC-002) in Massachusetts. This is the course needed to apply for a License To Carry Firearms or a Firearms Identification Card.

A Guide To Firearm Licensing In Massachusetts


Class A License to Carry Firearms Can Purchase and Possess

1. Chemical sprays (Mace or Pepper)
2. Ammunition (which also includes powder & ball for guns which are not primitive* firearms)
3. Carry primitive handguns if license not restricted.
4. Rifles: “large capacity” & non “large capacity”
5. Shotguns: “large capacity” & non “large capacity”
6. Single shot handguns, most revolvers & handguns which are not “large capacity”
7. Machine guns or “full automatic” firearms (additional MA & Federal Licenses required)
8. “Large capacity” handguns
9. Carry concealed, if license not restricted

Class B License to Carry Firearms Can Purchase and Possess

1. Chemical sprays (Mace or Pepper)
2. Ammunition (which also includes powder & ball for guns which are not primitive* firearms)
3. Primitive handguns
4. Rifles: “large capacity” & non “large capacity”
5. Shotguns: large capacity” & non “large capacity”
6. Single shot handguns, most revolvers & handguns which are not “large capacity”
7. Machine guns or “full automatic” firearms (additional MA & Federal Licenses required)
8. Cannot own “Large capacity” handguns
9. Cannot carry concealed

Firearms Identification Card Can Purchase and Possess

1. Chemical sprays (Mace or Pepper)
2. Ammunition (includes powder & bullets for guns which are not primitive firearms)
3. Rifles and shotguns which are not “large capacity”

Firearms Identification Card For Mace Only Can Purchase or Possess

Chemical sprays (Mace or Pepper) only.


*NOTE: Primitive firearms are muzzleloaders - the types used in the Revolutionary and Civil wars. No license is needed to purchase and possess primitive rifles, shotguns & handguns, but it appears that a Class A license (with no restrictions) would be needed to carry a primitive handgun.
